What you should know about employing people with disability

Sometimes the right person for the job will be someone with a disability. We can help you find them through our free recruitment and employer support services.

The Disability Employment Network helps employers recruit and retain staff with permanent disabilities. Its members offer free recruitment services, including:

  • recruitment advice, matching job seekers with jobs
  • candidate screening and short-listing
  • help with job design
  • training information and awareness raising activities for employers and their staff
  • ongoing support for employees who need it once they are in a job.

Vocational Rehabilitation Services (VRS) provide free help for employers to employ people with an injury, disability or health condition or where an existing employee is experiencing difficulty in the workplace.

Also, Job Network places thousands of Australians in jobs each year, including people with disabilities.

What other support is available?

Workplace Modifications Scheme—pays for the cost of modifying the workplace to accommodate a disability if needed.

Wage Subsidy Scheme—offers wage subsidies to employers who employ eligible people with disabilities.

JobAccess—an online resource and telephone service providing free, expert information and advice in recruiting or working with people with disabilities.
